George’s Rockstars

Master Crafted Miniatures doesn’t hold Black Friday sales. Instead, for the last few years, I have donated the proceeds from all sales of MCM products on that day (or the corresponding weekend) to charities which fight against blood cancer and work to improve the lives of those affected.

I started doing this because of a little boy, George, who had been fighting leukaemia for a couple of years. With the support of his family, blood donations and the wonderful staff of the NHS, he put up a heroic fight. This year, however, his family was given the terrible news that his leukaemia had returned and, later, that there was no course of action left to take.

With my own son only just over a year old, attending George’s funeral was a tough experience yet, as an event, it was incredibly positive. His short life affected so many, and I wish I had known him better myself. His parents have since begun the long process of setting up a charity to help those in George’s situation, allowing him to continue being a force for happiness through music, which he loved: George’s Rockstars.

Stories like these are too common, but there are many ways in which each of us can make a difference. Donation is the easiest way to contribute to research and support, but there are other things you can do which are just as important.
Give blood. This is crucial and very easy. Whilst you’re there, get them to test you for platelet donation, as few of us have high enough platelet counts to do this. Register as a stem cell donor. Register as a bone marrow donor. You may never be called upon but, if you are, you will be saving a life.

This year, if you buy through the MCM store from Friday 22nd to midnight on Friday 29th of November, you’ll get yourself some stuff for our funny little hobby, and the proceeds will be donated to George’s Rockstars. If I have nothing you want, please try to donate, but whatever else you do – and this will cost you nothing but your time – register:

Thank you,
Ben.

Not your normal Black Friday.

Once again, Master Crafted Miniatures isn’t holding a Black Friday sale. Instead, the proceeds from all sales Friday & Saturday (24th & 25th) will be donated to the Anthony Nolan and DKMS charities, fighting against blood cancer and working to improve the lives of those affected.

Next up is an announcement about price increases. On Black Friday? I know. Madness.

Whilst I struggle to keep up on my own, Master Crafted Miniatures is doing well. I don’t want to stand still, however. I want to grow the business, expanding what I can offer.
Whilst it isn’t required, some of the things I would like to do are benefited by becoming VAT registered. Unfortunately, registering means I also have to charge VAT. Rather than simply add VAT on to current prices, I will be taking a small hit on profits across the range; sharing the burden with my customers.

MCM has never increased prices during its 4-year life, despite increases in running costs. The current prices are very competitive, so I think a small increase is understandable. On average, those of you outside the UK will still be paying less than you were before the EU referendum!

Not everything is increasing by the same percentage, with some prices not increasing at all, so I have put together this comprehensive list of the new prices:

I’m not doing this immediately. Prices will remain the same until Monday 27th. Feel free to back-order during this period and I’ll get your order out ASAP.
I’ll then have to make the site unavailable for a short time whilst I implement the changes.

Thanks to all my customers for their support over the years. I’ve got some exciting plans lined up & I’m looking forward to the future!

Ben.

Money Raised for Anthony Nolan Charity

I had hoped the total would be a little higher, even with people’s hobby money going where the savings are this last weekend. Nonetheless, many thanks to everyone who bought something this weekend, you’re helping make a difference. I’ll get your orders out ASAP.

Thank you for paying in £108.45, that you raised in aid of our lifesaving work here at Anthony Nolan. What you’ve really done is send a gift of hope to people diagnosed with blood cancer and blood disorders.

Your generosity will help us find potentially lifesaving transplants for people with blood cancer.

Our aim at Anthony Nolan is to save the lives of everyone who needs a transplant. Thanks to our kind supporters, we can now find a matching donor for three people in need each day. However we know that there are still many more people who we have not been able to help, simply due to a lack of funds.

With your donation – and the support of thousands of other generous people like you – we can add even more new donors to our vital register. By adding new donors we can then help more people in desperate need of a blood stem cell or bone marrow transplant.

There are many ways in which each of us can make a difference. Donation is the easiest, and there are several great charities to which you can donate, but there are other things you can do which are even more important.
Give blood. Whilst you’re there, get them to test you for platelet donation, as few of us have high enough platelet counts to do this.
